Gateway to the Pacific

Aurora is the newest addition to the provinces comprising Central Luzon (Region III), Philippines. It was transferred from Region IV by Executive Order No. 103.

Before 1979, Aurora was part of the province of Quezon. Aurora was, in fact, named after the wife of Pres. Manuel L. Quezon, the president of the Philippine Commonwealth, after whom the mother province was named.

Aurora Province is located on the East-Central side of Luzon Island. It is bordered on the north by the provinces of Isabela and Quirino, on the west by Nueva Ecija and Nueva Viscaya, on the south by Bulacan and Quezon, and on the east by the Pacific Ocean.

The main link of the province to the rest of Luzon is a mountain road cutting across the Sierra Madre Mountain from Bongabon, Nueva Ecija to Baler, Aurora.

Aurora's basic economy is agricultural; copra and rice are the principal products. Fishing and aquaculture are also predominant in the seven coastal municipalities. Weaving, especially of sabutan (Pandanus sabotan) hats is an important cottage industry.

Its existing small and medium enterprises are predominantly engaged in furniture and woodcraft, sabutan craft, handmade paper, basketry and food processing.

There are six ports in Aurora: four municipal ports located in Baler and Casiguran, two private ports used for travel to and from Dilasag and Baler and four feeder airports.

Aurora is a province blessed with an abundance of tourist and historical attractions.
