SBMA Approves $798-M Project at Subic’s Redondo Peninsula
The approval of the 982-hectare property at Subic’s Redondo Peninsula will encourage more manufacturing companies and light to heavy industries to locate in Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ) in Zambales.
The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) announced in May the approval of the US$798 million project which was proposed by the Singapore-based Dynamic Konstruct International ECO Builders Corporation (Dkiebc). The project will consist of a Green Industrial City and a solar farm.
The said eco-friendly industrial zone, which will sit on a 580-hectare area, will source its power from the 402-hectare solar farm. Dkiebc’s proposed solar farm, with an estimated cost of US$300 million, will be designed to produce 200 megawatts of green energy and will supply the power requirements of the industrial zone.
Due to the limited area of SBFZ, the proposed project is being eyed by new investors and locators looking for area for expansion, especially the industrial zone which will house commercial buildings, factories, and warehouses, among others.
The whole project is expected to generate 50,000 jobs and also shows the resolve of the government gearing towards a more extensive use of renewable energy. (With additional report from the Manila Times)
