PNoy Inaugurates Php710 Million Solar Farm in Cabanatuan City
President Benigno S. Aquino III led the inauguration of the 10-megawatt (MW) Solar Farm Project in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija on May 26, 2016. The solar farm is operated by the First Cabanatuan Renewable Ventures Incorporated (FCRVI).
The Php710 million solar farm project is situated in a 12-hectare land area at Barangay Lourdes, Cabanatuan City and is expected to lessen the Philippines’ carbon emission of at least 16,500 metric tons annually or 330,000 metric tons over the project’s life which is estimated at 20 years.
Recognizing the project’s vital role in combating climate change, President Aquino said that the 39,456 solar panels would supply renewable energy to the whole Luzon grid. He added that if such projects will push through in the upcoming years, it will be beneficial not only as an alternative source of energy, but for the environment as well.
Considered to be a major frontier in renewable energy, construction of the solar farm was started in June 2015 and was completed in January 2016.
