Tarlac Hosts IT-BPM Roadshow

The Province of Tarlac, categorized as one of the top Emerging Locations for Information Technology Business Process Management (IT-BPM), hosted another rollout of the Roadshow dubbed as “Promoting Digital Opportunities in the Countryside” on August 15-16, 2016.

The roadshow was conducted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Tarlac (PGT) and the Tarlac ICT & eCommerce Council. It was attended by the stakeholders in the province, such as telecom companies, academe, members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Tarlac, software developers, real estate developers and local government units.

Mr. Monchito Ibrahim of DICT, who acted as moderator during the forum, pointed out that their main objective was to enjoin all stakeholders in the province to work together in making Tarlac an attractive and viable place for IT-BPM investments. He urged the stakeholders to market the province and to formulate a provincial roadmap for IT-BPM so that all stakeholders can work in one direction. He also advised the academe to review their curriculum and make sure that they are responsive to the industry.

As a result of the roadshow, the two existing ICT Councils in the province expressed the possibility of a merger for the benefit of the province. As he appreciated this initiative, Mr. Ibrahim further stressed the importance of being a member of the NICP since membership is the basis for recognition of an ICT Council.

During the forum, it was announced that the municipalities of Anao, followed by Pura and Ramos were given free WiFi connections through the DICT.
